Congratulations to the Winners of the First Nevada Youth Wildfire Preparedness Challenge!

October 16th, 2024

We are proud to announce the winners of the first-ever Living With Fire Nevada Youth Wildfire Preparedness Challenge. This challenge encouraged youth from across the state to take action and help their communities prepare for wildfire.

The grand prize-winning team, Battle Mountain Future Farmers Association (FFA), received a $1,500 prize sponsored by the NV Energy Foundation. These students identified defensible space needs on a local ranch, where they cleared dead vegetation and installed a water line to better protect the area from wildfires.

Their hard work not only made a significant impact but also gave them a sense of accomplishment. As FFA student Ella shared, "It was amazing to see the difference and progress we made... We provided a safer living environment that will help prevent fires."

The prize funds will help the team attend the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis to continue their education in agriculture and environmental impacts.

We are thrilled to announce that the 2024-2025 Nevada Youth Wildfire Preparedness Challenge is now open for submissions! With continued support from the NV Energy Foundation, prizes will be awarded to winning teams in three age groups: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Visit the link below to learn more and get involved.
